Every year, for her birthday, I design a poster for someone very important to me. The posters you see below are two exemplars of this ongoing series. Unlike other posters I’ve created, unlike most of my work, in fact, the trajectory of these posters remained relatively constant throughout the design process. I worked out where I wanted to go fairly early on and attempted to make my way in that direction. The first poster (left) is a summary of what I thought the following year of her life might be like. In hindsight, it seems that I grossly underestimated the number of plants that were going to be involved. Otherwise it was pretty much spot on.
The second poster shows an entity: her as an individual and her relationship to me, together, as one entity. In the poster, that entity has been populated with life and movement. It might not be permanent, but it is, at the very least, a fairly solid foundation upon which something can be built.
